1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice is quite popular in Jalan Gasing Petaling Jaya. If you want a good chicken rice in Petaling Jaya, this is the place. I used to come here when I worked in Mid Valley Megamall.
The only downer here is looking for a parking. It’s brutal if during peak hours.
1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice restaurant is famous for its authentic and delicious Ipoh specialties – steamed chicken and bean sprouts. Both versatile dishes can be eaten with rice, noodles or porridge. Customers can choose from ordinary white steamed chicken or organic kampung chicken.
As I remember, the chicken rice is good but with my recent visit, the chicken rice is even better. The restaurant is always packed with people but there are plenty of table and chairs to sit on.
At first, we ordered a plate of Char Siu and Siu Yok RM13, Barbeque Chicken Leg RM16 and a plate of Ipoh bean sprout (medium) RM8.80 with two rice ( RM1.80 each).
The Roasted Chicken Leg is so juicy and flavourful, It’s hard to omit the skin. For this, I’m making an exception, skin in.
The Char Siu and Siu Yok plate portion were little. The taste is good but not value for money. The Char Siu sauce is authentic traditional char siu sauce, and I love it! The Ipoh bean sprout is crunchy and quite alright.
It is damn good that we added another plate of Ipoh White Chicken Leg RM16. When it served, Oh My God! It is so good! It’s so good and smooth, and all the fat & skin texture feels like jelly without unnecessary gore of biting into bloodied bone marrows.
Both the Ipoh White Chicken Leg or the Roasted Chicken Leg will be drizzle with some flavour oil and soy sauce to enhance the flavour and texture.
To be honest, I was in Ipoh last few weeks, and even Ipoh Famous Chicken Rice place will not be able to beat 1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice, especially their Ipoh White Chicken Leg.
In addition, the food will comes with a bowl of soup so you don’t need to order a drink.
The order and services are extremely fast. I’d recommend everyone to check out this place!
My Opinion:
I make two trips to this restaurant. The first trip will be during lunch hours and another is in the evening. Guess what? There is a huge difference of taste.
The lunch version is much better and the evening version such a downer. The chicken was not smooth at all and everything just fell apart.
If we’re to try the evening version first, I’d change my mind about this place.
A must place to visit for a delicious chicken rice. When you’re there, Ipoh White Chicken Leg is a must to order. I guess the best time to visit this place is during lunch hour when packed of patrons.
